HALESOWEN Town have been forced to introduce a new ID system in a bid to try and stem the rising tide of violence caused by young teenagers which has tarnished the club during their pre season programme.

Trouble flared at the recent Brookes-Clark Shield competition at Stourbridge to such an extent that the game had to be abandoned at half time.

Further incidents have since followed to the point where the club have now instigated an Under-16 supporters membership scheme.

It means any supporter under 16 not enrolled into the scheme will not be allowed into games unless accompanied by a parent or paying adult.

Dismayed club spokesperson Dave Hawley said: “Maybe it’s the society we’re suddenly living in but the club has realised that we have to act.

“These youngsters – and we’re talking about 14 and 15 year olds, seem to think they’re untouchable.

“It’s a shame, because we’ve got some exceptional youngsters who support the club but there are some who seem intent on causing trouble and displaying anti-social behaviour."

Halesowen have taken advice from newly promoted National League side Maidstone by introducing a youth membership card scheme whereby youngsters must complete an on-line booking form which their parents must complete and then submit the application to the club.

Mr Hawley added: “ I hope people will understand why we’ve introduced this scheme because we need to protect everyone from a mindless minority.

“Youngsters will be handed an ID card which they must produce on match days. Anyone who rocks up on the day of the game without a card will not be admitted.

“If people have got nothing to hide and it’s free – then why not join the scheme

“ The big fear is that this outbreak of anti-social behaviour will put some supporters off attending games, especially those who bring young children with them. We don’t want to lose those supporters, especially the children, because they’re the future of the club."
