CRADLEY Labour Club has been sold for £350k according to local councillor Tim Crumpton.

The proceeds of the sale - after debts have been paid - will be shared amongst Labour Club members, who number more than 100.

The sale of the sprawling site on Colley Gate is in the process of going through - with the buyer not wishing to go public at this stage.

Councillor Crumpton said he believes the deal will preserve the building's future.

Around 30 Labour Club members attended a meeting on Sunday March 5 where they voted unanimously to accept the offer.

Debts which will be taken include £26,495 which will pay a claim for unfair dismissal from former employee Stephen Smith.

Mr Smith won a claim against the club last May when he took it to an employment tribunal.

The Labour club, also known as Wilson Hall, closed in December 2021 after damage due to flooding and the covid pandemic meant it could not survive as a viable business.

Cradley Labour councillor Tim Crumpton said: "The members of the club own it so the proceeds will be shared between them.

"There are over 100 so it will be a few thousand pounds each.

"The sale is in progress. I didn't want the building to remain an eyesore.

"I've managed in less than a year to sell the place, unlike the Tories who still haven't sorted out the derelict buildings down the road on Colley Gate.

"I'm chuffed.

"My thoughts are the building will stay - I think it will be something the people of Cradley will welcome."

Cllr Crumpton said he had relinquished his membership as he did not want to be seen as making any financial gain from the sale - and that he had been asked by the members to help sort out the future of the site.
