A LANDMARK venue in Old Hill which had its premises licence revoked over noise complaints from neighbours is set to reopen after a full refurbishment.

The Regis on Reddal Hill Road will be given a makeover and opened as a venue called Luxor events by new tenants Sandip and Dalveer Gillar.

The couple are spending more than £35k on restoring the art deco building and want to work with neighbours to ensure its future is bright.

They will stage events such as weddings, family parties, children's birthday parties and hope to have it open in May, with the couple taking the keys on Friday (March 17).

Work has already started on the revamp.

Dalveer, aged 35, said: "We are looking to completely renovate The Regis, keeping it as an events space but with new branding and refurbishing the place inside and out to really lift it up for the local community so they can be proud of it again.

"It hasn't seen any love for a while and is looking like a real eyesore in the area which isn't great for the local businesses and residents.

"We want to turn it into something the local community are really happy with.

"We don't want people to feel nervous about it."

The Regis had its license revoked by Sandwell Council last June.

The council's licensing sub-committee heard evidence from residents living nearby and environmental health officers about noise from the venue, and was satisfied that a public nuisance had been occurring.

Sandip said no ticketed events will be staged and alcoholic drinks will not be served past 11pm.

She recently launched her own marketing agency called Luxor marketing which will be run from the office at the Regis.

Dalveer works in project management in IT.
