A TACO Bell restaurant looks set to be coming to Oldbury.

An application for the Mexican-inspired food chain to open a restaurant on Oldbury Green Retail Park has gone in to planners at Sandwell Council.

If given the go-ahead a former Carphone Warehouse unit on the retail park on Oldbury Ringway, which has been empty since Autumn 2020, will be converted into a new eatery.

Fifteen full-time and 15 part-time jobs will be created.

Oldbury will be Taco Bell's first location in the Black Country and only the second in the West Midlands after Stafford.

Taco Bell was founded in 1962 in Downey, California.

It serves a variety of Mexican-inspired foods, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, novelty and speciality items.

Taco Bell has grown to be the world’s largest Mexican-inspired food brand, serving more than 2 billion customers each year, with over 7,500 restaurants across the globe.

The chain is expanding across the UK and now has over 120 restaurants.

Notes to planners state: "The restaurant will provide 56 covers and will primarily operate as a sit-down restaurant with take away available."

They go on to say: "This application provides a key opportunity to return the unit to productive economic use and bring a new restaurant use to enhance the choice of food and drink facilities at the retail park."

The application is for a change of use from retail to restaurant.

The site is home to Homebase, Poundland, Next, Shoezone, Pets at Home, Carpetright, Bargain Buys, The Food Warehouse, Smyths Toys, Costa, Greggs, Card Factory and a Burger King.

Planning permission has recently been granted for a new drive-thru Starbucks café.
