A LANDMARK art deco venue in Old Hill which had its premises licence revoked over noise complaints has reopened after a £60k refurbishment.
Sandip and Dalveer Gillar have spent more than £60k transforming The Regis on Reddal Hill Road into a venue called Luxor events.
The couple have completely restored the distinctive building and are staging events such as weddings, family parties, children's birthday parties.
They welcomed around 120 people to the venue's relaunch earlier this month.
Sandip said: "We even had the local residents that were against it attend and the majority of them were pleased with how the event party went in terms of no noise nuisance or chaos in the streets.
"They thought it was managed really well as we had high levels of security and wardens on the doors and streets as well as music noise levels at a suitable level."
The couple, who took the keys in March, said they are having a sound report done to ensure the music is set to an acceptable level.
They are using a temporary events licence until a hearing on July 17, when they will find out whether they have been granted a full premises licence.
Sandip said: "We have spent over 60k on this venue soundproofing it, including wall soundproofing and screed cement on the floor in the main room so there is no vibration as there was very old wooden flooring under the carpet.
"We want to work hand in hand with the local community and would appreciate it if they could welcome us.
"Sometimes it does feel like everyone is against us and using the previous tenant's actions against us."
The Regis closed after its license was revoked by Sandwell Council last June.
The council's licensing sub-committee was satisfied a public nuisance had been occurring.
New tenants Sandip and Dalveer also own a photobooth company called Ride My Tuk Tuk and have three young daughters under five.
