MULTIPLE "selfish" drivers blocking the pavement in Halesowen have started a debate over inconsiderate parking.

Raymond Westwood shared the picture of a string of cars parked completely across the pavement side by side, blocking the way for pedestrians on Long Lane, Shell Corner today (Wednesday June 28).

He said on the Shell Corner Partnership Facebook page: "Some courteous parking on Shell Corner today."

The post started a conversation during which some people suggested that the increase in parked cars could be due to it being Eid and there being a mosque on Long Lane.

The desperate need for a car park in the area was brought up.

Councillor Hilary Bills said: "Yes, it's Eid.

"But we've been fighting for a car park since the first study in 2004.

"Shell Corner is listed as one of 12 local centres.

"All the others have a car park, Lye, Netherton, Gornal etc but not us.

"That was why Shell Corner Partnership was set up. Just had another master plan written but still no car park!"

Another poster said: "Need a carpark nearby.

"The area will die if customers can't park. That's why I don't use the area much I will go where I can park."

One said: "Trouble is there are no car parks that you can use on the Shell Corner, any available spaces are used by shop or business owners.

"No one cares no matter who you complain to."

One poster said they had been unable to get to a booked tip slot as a car was blocking their gates. They said it was "selfishness."

Another said: "What can I say I’m sick of complaining to the local councillors.

"They try their best but if people ignore them what more can they do?
