MORE than 600 items have been donated to the food bank after the president of Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club put out an appeal.

Steve Jones was president of the rotary club for the year to June 2023 and to mark the end of his presidency he wanted to help the Black Country Food Bank, which has a hub in Brierley Hill.

Steve said: "In the end we achieved 626 donated items of food and toiletries.

"The van collected the items from the club on Friday July 14 and despite the rain the van was loaded up with the items so desperately needed.

"This is a great example of local organisations working together and making a difference."

Steve is currently Senior's Captain at Halesowen Golf Club and so sought the support of the golf club to help with the challenge.

He said men's captain Paul Tudor and lady captain Maxine Burrows were enthusiastic to help.

He said: "The Rotary Club actually meet at the golf club every fortnight and so their co-operation to take on this challenge seemed only natural."

Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club also helps finance the costs of keeping the food bank's van on the road.
