A 17-YEAR-OLD boy who carried out a vicious attack on a man while armed with a machete in Woodgate Valley has been sent to a young offenders’ institution.
The teenager, who cannot be named as he is under 18, has been sentenced to 30 months in the institution following the sustained attack, in 2021, which left the victim seriously injured.
He had pleaded not guilty to a charge of wounding with intent but was found guilty following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
The trial followed an incident that happened on the evening of October 19, 2021, in which a man was attacked with a machete outside his home in Woodgate Valley by a group of youths.
The victim suffered serious injuries but still managed to restrain his attacker until police arrived.
The man’s son was also stabbed in the stomach during the incident as he rushed to help his dad. Both were taken to hospital.
The defendant was also injured and taken to hospital where police seized a knife sheath from him.
Officers carried out a detailed investigation, securing CCTV and doorbell footage of the attack, which was presented in court ahead of the successful conviction.
