AN intrepid trio of Halesowen golfers clubbed their way around Leasowes Park course  for a gruelling 24 hours - but it was all in a good cause.

The threesome were raising money for Motor Neurone Disease and hope to net £1,500 for their trouble.

Halesowen Golf Club champion Ben Hackett was joined by fellow members Nigel Dale and Paul Holmes for the marathon round with a difference.

Nigel Dale explained: "It went smoothly until we had to play in the dark. We played with head torches and luminous balls with glow-sticks in the middle of them.

"We had an extra hazard as loads of knats followed us around the course.

"But it all went well  until the last four hours when we started to hit the wall. Thankfully a couple of lads from the club came out and played with us, which helped us considerabally."

Motor Neurone Disease is the chosen  charity for club captain's Paul Tudor and  Maxine Burrows, which is particularly pertinent as  Paul's partner has recently been diagnosed with the illness.

It's not the first time the players have taken to golfing endurance.

In 2021 they embarked on a 72 hole challenge, then went even better the following year with a 100  hole epic.

However the  trio  have now surpassed previous efforts as their 24 hour extravaganza took in 126 holes.

The marathon effort didn't prevent Nigel Dale from playing the following day.

Nigel said: "I'd completely forgotten that  I was down to play 18 holes of golf in a competition at Malvern Hills.

"I got up the following morning and realised I was due to play. It was a team competition and I didn't want to let the other lads down.

"Let's just say the previous 24 hours took its toll because I was rubbish. I must have gone round in about 90'ish.  I've drawn a line under that one now."
