A FIREFIGHTING Halesowen councillor has revealed nearly half of all vehicles recently surveyed on a Halesowen road were speeding.

Cllr Stuart Henley said almost fifty per cent of vehicles surveyed on Lansdowne Road were exceeding the limit and travelling at more than 35mph.

He said the result is "alarming" and is calling for action to clamp down on speeding motorists.

He wants to see speed cameras, increased police presence with speed guns and the regular deployment of a police speed van and has written to the council, police and MP calling for these measures.

The Halesowen North councillor said: "This is a matter of grave concern, and it's essential that we all come together to combat this reckless behaviour."

Cllr Henley said Speedwatch recently started in the area, with checks already carried out on Narrow Lane also Lansdowne Road with some drivers receiving warning letters from the police and other roads due to be looked at soon.

He said: "I've consistently advocated for more to be done to address this issue.

"As a resident, I witness and experience these problems firsthand, and I'm regularly contacted by many others who share their concerns.

"Moreover, as a firefighter, I've seen the devastating impact of speeding on families involved in road traffic collisions.

"The sadness and tragedy that result from these incidents are heart-wrenching."

He added: "It's time for action, not just words. We cannot afford to wait for tragedy to strike before addressing this issue.

"Let's work together to make our streets safer for everyone. I hope that our concerns are taken seriously, as enough is enough."

The councillor, who is a firefighter at Dudley fire station, urged residents to report all speeding issues to the police via 101 or online chat.
