A 14-year-old boy was threatened at knifepoint and demanded to hand over his trainers at Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
Police have released an image of two people they want to identify following the attempted robbery on Wednesday, August 16.
West Midlands Police said the teenager refused to hand over his shoes, with the suspects making more threats as they left him.
In a post on Facebook, Dudley Police said: "Do you recognise this pair?
"We want to identify them after an attempted robbery at the Merry Hill shopping centre.
"Two people approached a 14-year-old boy, threatened him with a knife and demanded he hand over his trainers. The teenager refused and the duo made off, making further threats as they left. It happened at around 12.20 pm on Wednesday 16 August.
