THREE teenagers have been arrested after a knifepoint carjacking in Sandwell.

Police were alerted to a man being slashed with a machete after being confronted by a masked group near Bearwood High Street at around 10.15pm on Thursday (November 2).

The victim was dragged from a Seat Ibiza, as the group fled in the vehicle and a waiting Audi A3.

Following a pursuit, the Audi stopped in Sedgley Road, Wren's Nest, Dudley, and the occupants fled.

Police said they found cannabis and machetes inside the car which had been stolen two days earlier.

Three teenage boys - one aged 14 and two others aged 17 – were later detained and taken into custody for questioning.

The 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon, wounding and having drugs; while one of the 17-year-olds was detained for theft of a motor vehicle and drugs.

The other 17-year-old was arrested for robbery, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

The Seat was found abandoned shortly afterwards and police have been working to establish if anyone else was involved.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We're carrying out CCTV enquiries, which includes reviewing footage from a dozen new cameras which were fitted by Sandwell Council along Bearwood Road in the summer.”

The force added that the victim was hurt during the ordeal but that injuries sustained were not life-threatening.
