A 'COMMITTED' Halesowen College lecturer has been named Teacher of the Year in the Dudley Community Awards.

Ross Nicholls was nominated for his commitment to his students, his innovative lessons and the support he gives students every day.

He teaches A Level Drama at the college.

Ross, who is also Interim Head of Division for Humanities at Halesowen College, said: “I am delighted to receive this award and to be recognised in this way.

“I really enjoy working with creative students and supporting them to achieve their goals.”

Kathy Omahony, from Local IQ who co-ordinated the awards, said: “Ross is a very deserving winner of this award, he is supportive and committed to his students and the College.”

Dudley Community Awards were held at The Copthorne Hotel and were sponsored by the University of Worcester.

Ross’s award was sponsored by BRSK.

Other winners included: Environmental Project of the Year: Dudley Canal and Tunnels trust; Best Volunteer or Fundraiser of the Year: Sally Philpotts from Mary Steven’s Hospice and New Business of the Year: Meadow View Mutts Secure Dog Field.
