A CINEMA is fundraising after one of its workers was diagnosed with cancer.

Adam Hemming, aged 43, who works at Reel cinema in Quinton was diagnosed with melanoma around a year ago and has been receiving treatment since.

The fun-loving father-of-two dressed as Wonka when the film came out earlier this month and sold sweet treats in return for collections for Macmillan Cancer, pulling in £150.

He will be donning a Grinch outfit at the cinema on Hagley Road West this weekend to do another collection for the good cause.

Adam and his partner Sophia Brothwood live in Oldbury and have two daughters Jessica Hemming, age 12 and Lara Hemming, aged ten.

Sophia, aged 37, said: "He wanted to make this year special as he didn't think he would be here."

Sophia noticed a strange looking mole when Adam has hit hair cut shorter to attend a wedding.

She said: "He didn't want to do anything about it - but he had a doctor's appointment for something else and I mentioned it then.

"Within two weeks he was at the skin centre from City Hospital - last Christmas Eve he had his first biopsy.

"At the beginning of March we got the news that it was melanoma."

Adam had an operation to remove the cancerous mole and has been having high doses of vitamins as well as body scans each month.

Sophia said the family is hoping he will get the all clear in the New Year.

Reel cinema is showing the original Home Alone film, Elf, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, Wish, Wonka and How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Christmas Eve.
