HALESOWEN Town FC "started the year with a bang" by winning the number 9 derby against their Stourbridge rivals.

Yeltz completed the double with a 1-0 victory and lifted the Brookes-Clark Shield in front of a bumper crowd of 3,150 at The Grove on Saturday (January 6).

Yeltz manager Paul Smith said he was "delighted" with the result saying: "To do the double over Stourbridge is a huge achievement for the football club."

Halesowen News:

He added: "We started the year off with a bang, it's a fantastic result and to have 3,000 in here is testament to what we are doing as a football club.

"It's brilliant to see.

"Hopefully those that have come that maybe don't come here every week will start coming a little bit more often, because that's what we need to do, we need to keep putting the building blocks in place to continue to improve."

A goal from Ryan Wynter sealed the 1-0 win for Yeltz.

Stourbridge manager Leon Broadhurst was disappointed with the result.

He said: "We didn't deserve to lose the game - it seems luck is going against us at the moment - but we will try to do everything to turn it around - we are just not getting the rub of the green."

The sides met for the first round of the derby last September in what was a thriller of a match - with Halesowen coming out winners with a 4-3 score.

Halesowen Town thanked fans for their "amazing support."
