AWARD-WINNING hairdresser Helen Tether has moved from her Halesowen salon to a "cute" log cabin in her garden to avoid spiralling costs.
The talented stylist opened Helen Tether's Award-Winning Hair on Gorsty Hill Road in 2016 - but battling covid lockdowns and more recently huge increases in costs including utility bills meant she fell out of love with the salon and needed a change.
So in a move to slash overheads she has opened a new salon called 'The Lodge' in the garden of her home on Maughan Street, Quarry Bank.
And it has gone down a storm, with her clients loving the new more intimate experience.
Helen, aged 41, said: "I hadn’t been happy for a while.
"If I’m honest I don’t think I ever felt the same since all the lockdowns.
"I had lost my love for the salon and with ever rising expenses and utility bills it was getting harder to survive.
"My landlord was great and never increased the rent.. but my gas and electric tripled.. and my water too!
"Hair product is constantly on the rise and with Wella having three price increases in one year I had to raise my colour prices."
She spent two weeks converting the lodge, which was already in her garden, into a beautiful salon, which has gone down a storm.
It also gives her more flexibility and she now works Wednesday to Saturday with two late nights.
Helen, who is mum to Sienna, aged eight, who also wants to be a hairdresser said: "It's been absolutely amazing!
"My old and new clients love my new space!
"It’s warm and cosy and it’s got such a lovely chilled vibe.
"Most of my clients say it’s “cute” and they love how intimate the experience has become.
"It’s amazing how many clients don’t like a big salon environment, and have found my salon much more comfortable."
