AN inquest has been opened into the death of West Midlands Fire Service’s chief fire officer Wayne Brown.
Mr Brown was found deceased at his home address in Birmingham on January 24, aged 54.
An inquest into his death was opened at Birmingham and Solihull Coroner's Court on Monday (February 5).
The death is not being treated as suspicious, police said, but an inquest will be held to determine the circumstances.
It has been scheduled for Tuesday June 25, starting at 10am.
The day before Mr Brown’s death, the fire service had confirmed the fire chief was under investigation regarding claims made about him - believed to relate to whether he had a business administration qualification which is a requirement for the top chief fire officer role.
News of his sudden death, however, has left colleagues across the fire service in shock.
Meanwhile, a book of condolence has been opened by the fire service on its website wmfs.net for people wishing to pay tribute to Mr Brown – who became the UK’s first black chief fire officer.
