A BID to build flats on the site of a garage in Oldbury has been turned down by planners.

The application to build a block of three flats on the land, which is currently home to a garage for 114, Brookfields Road, has been thrown out by Sandwell Council.

Planners said: "The proposal is considered to be over-development and would result in a cramped and intrusive form of development generally out of character with the existing properties in the immediate vicinity of the site."

Mr Manminder Singh, of Warley Road in Oldbury had submitted the application to build a three-storey apartment block - with two-bedroom flats on the ground and first floor and a one-bedroom flat in the loft area.

There were spaces for four cars shown at the front of the proposed property.

The application was refused on March 6.
