A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after a crash closed a busy road in Dudley with motorists advised to avoid the area.
The crash happened on Tipton Road, Dudley (A4037) between Birmingham New Road and Castle Gate Island, with the road closed in both directions today (Tuesday April 30).
It involved three cars and a van, which overturned. A woman who was the driver of one of the cars was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Russells Hall Hospital. A spokesman for Dudley Council said at 1.50pm: "Please be aware that traffic / congestion in the area will be considerably increased whilst this incident is dealt with."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at around 1.15pm to reports of an RTC on Tipton Road in Dudley near Castle Gate Island.
"An ambulance, paramedic officer and a Critical Care Paramedic were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found three cars and a van had been involved in a collision and the van had ended up on its side.
"The driver of one of the cars, a woman, was treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further treatment.
"Two other patients, both men from the van, were assessed by medics but did not require further treatment."
At 3.30pm a spokesman for Dudley Council said: "This incident has been closed and the highway re-opened to traffic in both directions.
"Congestion is still high in the area but is slowly clearing."
