FED-UP Halesowen councillors are demanding action from the council and police to address prolific drug dealing in a run-down area owned by Dudley Council.
Halesowen North councillors Hilary Bills and Parmjit Sahota say the drug dealing is happening openly in the daytime and is visible to the local community on land between Nimmings Road and St Pauls Drive.
They are calling for the council to tidy up the neglected piece of land which has become a meeting point for drug dealers and users.
The boarded-up building on the site has been left derelict for years.
The councillors say the area around the building has been allowed to become overgrown and the council green space commonly known as Birdy’s has not been regularly maintained.
Cllr Sahota said: “The local community have had enough and I have written to Police Superintendent Anthony Tagg and the Chief Executive of Dudley Council asking them to work together to stop this criminal activity and to have the area tidied up.
"The present reactive do-nothing approach has allowed the drug dealing to continue without any fear of arrest.”
Cllr Bills said: ”I have regularly complained about this derelict area for over 12 years and it keeps getting worse.
"It gets cleared and then left to deteriorate all over again.
"I feel sorry for the residents who have to put up with this.”
Both councillors said there needs to be an end to quick fixes and a proper regeneration plan developed to make good use of the area and change it into a pleasant area to live.
Cllr Sahota met with the Deputy Chief Executive of Dudley Council Balvinder Heran last week and was told she would try to arrange a multi-agency meeting to address the issue.
Dudley Council and West Midlands Police have been contacted for comment.
