Halesowen Town manager Morrell Maison is eyeing up at least six more new signings as his side continue to make positive strides in pre-season.

The Yeltz have found goals easy to come by in their busy pre-season schedule but have been left wanting at the back.

Following last Wednesday’s 4-3 defeat at home to Stafford Rangers which featured two memorable strikes form new boy Mark Danks they demolished USA Trident FC 7-0 at the Grove on Saturday.

Danks was again the man of the moment as he scored a hat-trick with Aaron Cornwall (2), Jermaine Palmer and Justin Rowe also getting on the scoresheet.

A busy week of action ended with a 4-2 win at BGB Midlands One outfit Bromsgrove Rovers on Tuesday evening.

Dean Brennan notched a hat-trick while Cornwall got his name on the scoresheet again.

The Yeltz boss is now keen to add to his squad as he bids to shore up his defence.

Top of his shopping list before they kick off their BGB Premier Division campaign at home to Tiverton Town on Saturday August 16 are two centre halves, a goalkeeper and a central midfielder.

The manager said: “It’s a case of work in progress.

“In the whole I’ve been happy with the way the boys have taken on board what I want them to do.

“I just feel like everything is coming along beautifully and some of our forward play has been a joy to watch.

“I still want to sign at least four more players.

“Our forward line is looking very strong and it’s now just a case of ensuring we are equally as strong in all our other departments because one thing the pre-season games has shown is that we have a couple of achilles heals at the back.

“Ideally we will bring in two centre halves a goalkeeper and a central midfielder to add to the mix.”

On top of his four mystery targets, Maison also revealed he was close to making trialist centre half Tom Bryant’s stay at the Grove a permanent one, while he has been impressed with the impact of Palmer since he arrived on trial.

He added: “I know Gillingham were unsure on whether to release Tom or not.

“For me he’s a young player with loads of potential and certainly one for the future.

“I’m confident we will snap him up and have a real star on our hands.

“Jermaine has also done very well for us and I think he’s a player who could offer us something extra.”

One player who has not been on show so far is Eldon Maquemba.

The Angolan front man became a real fans favourite last season and it was believed he had agreed to stay on at the Grove.

Maison, however, admitted he was unsure whether the striker would be returning.

He said: “We’ve made Eldon our best offer possible but as yet he hasn’t returned with an answer.

“With the way we are playing going forward I’m under no pressure in that area because we are looking very effective.

“So the ball is firmly in Eldon’s court because I won’t be chasing him.”

The Yeltz will continue their pre-season schedule with two mouth-watering home fixtures.

They welcome League One side Walsall on Friday (7.45pm kick-off) with the Saddlers expected to bring a strong squad to the Grove.

Maison’s former employers and Blue Square Premier newcomers Kettering Town will be the next visitors when they take on the Yeltz on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).
