Local MP Sylvia Heal has vowed to work with local residents to try and save Post Office branches in Halesowen and Rowley Regis.

Sylvia said she was “deeply saddened” to learn two Post Offices in her constituency were under threat, one on Long Lane and one in Hasbury, and urged local residents to join the fight to save them.

Sylvia said: “I am a great believer in Government support for Post Offices but the network has lost four million customers a week in the past few years and losses now run at around £3.5m a week.

“As customer numbers dramatically reduce some closures are necessary, but in my opinion the branches in Hasbury and Long Lane are socially necessary and I will be fighting to save them.

She added: “I understand these proposals are a blow to local communities and many people are concerned and upset about the situation.”

Sylvia also reminded residents the proposals are subject to a public consultation to ensure the views of local people are taken into account before any final decisions are made.

She added: “We have a window of opportunity to make our feelings clear to Post Office Ltd, and I would urge my constituents to get involved in the consultation process.”

“Bear in mind Post Office Ltd wants to hear about factors they may have overlooked, for example it might be difficult for residents to get to other local branches by public transport.

“We have to prove why our Post Offices are critical for local people.

Anyone who wishes can send their views and comments by email to consultation@postoffice.co.uk or in writing to: Mark Partington, c/o Network Development Manager, FREEPOST Consultation Team.
