Overnight snow falls have once again brought disruption to Halesowen with several schools closing today (Thursday).

Dudley Council left closure decisions up to individual head teachers and with bad weather forecast to continue more announcements are expected.

Other council services affected by the weather include refuse collection which has been suspended for the day, extra collections will be made when conditions improve to clear the backlog.

The Dell Stadium, Brierley Hill, is also closed today due to the weather.

Council gritters worked through the night to treat main roads and traffic is currently moving freely with no major delays reported.

Council officers are continuing to monitor the weather conditions and supplies of salt to ensure treatment of highways can continue during the cold snap.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has called in extra staff to cope with increased demand during the icy conditions.

Ambulance chiefs are advising people to stay off the roads unless their journey is essential, take extra care if walking and take time to check on elderly friends and relatives.

Emergency medics are also calling on people to take care when enjoying winter fun after a series of sledging accidents in the region.
