In response to Cllr David Vickers’ letter Cllr Vicker's letter, sarcastically attacking the local MP is fairly predictable – it's opportunistic scaremongering.
I don't believe that our MP is flippantly trying to encourage Dudley residents to get into millions of pounds of debt in the current turbulent economic times in order to provide a new school.
I think this councillor is seizing the opportunity to tap into peoples feelings of insecurity and anxiety while we are all feeling the pinch rather than dealing with the real issue – that Dudley Council fail time and time again to listen to local residents about what educational provision they want for their children.
We've seen school closures and cutbacks in services.
Councillors are elected to make difficult decisions, to prioritise, to manage budgets– not to merely orchestrate political spats and scare people.
Personally I'm glad our MP stands up for us and holds the council to account.
I understand that cllr Vickers and Sylvia Heal MP will disagree on policy but I do not think it is appropriate for Mr Vickers to attack the MP and try and scare people in this way.
We've had the same MP since 1997, local people have positive things to say about her and she's overseen significant investment in the area.
We all know the economic problems the country is facing are caused by complex worldwide issues, we will get through this, scaring people into voting for you isn't the answer and it isn't very honourable.
R Ashton, Halesowen
