A Halesowen wheelchair tennis star is ready to swing into action by opening a popular annual boating weekend.
Paralympian Jordanne Whiley will cut the ribbon at this year’s Coombeswood Canal Trust’s open weekend, which will be held at Hawne basin on Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17.
The popular event regularly attracts more than 1,000 visitors and features boat trips, traction engines, craft stalls, live music and a real ale bar.
Jordanne is the current world junior and British singles wheelchair tennis champion and represented Britain at last year’s Paralympics.
Speaking behalf of the Trust, member Jon Jones said: “The Trust is delighted it’s own local sporting hero has agreed to open the weekend and looks forward to what will undoubtedly be another successful event.”
