There's good news for bookworms in Halesowen as the town's newly revamped library has extended its opening hours.

The library, based in the Cornbow Centre will be the fifth borough library to open on Sundays from 10am to 2pm and will also be open longer on weekdays until 7pm.

The extended opening times at Halesowen follow a programme of £48k worth of improvements including a new children’s library, a new teenage space on the ground floor, a quiet zone on the fourth floor for studying or reading and some new computers.

The revamp and extended opening hours are part of Dudley Council's library modernisation programme.

Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “The extended opening hours mark another phase in the programme of improvements at the library.

"The extended opening hours will give visitors more choice and flexibility about when to visit.

“Additional improvements are now in place and include new self service technology and a new entrance with automatic doors into the Cornbow Centre.”

In total, the library will be open for an extra 10 hours each week, helping the council on its way to achieving its target to increase staffed opening times by 75 hours each week.

Extended opening hours have been introduced at each of the borough’s libraries, apart from Netherton Library which will soon be opening for longer.

Sunday opening has also been introduced at Brierley Hill, Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen libraries.
