A HALESOWEN school has been awarded the prestigious Government backed International School Award.

Lutley Primary School has been honoured due to its stellar work in educating its pupils about the wider world.

In October staff from Lutley Primary School will attend a high-profile ceremony in London which will be presented by BBC broadcaster George Alagiah.

Rebecca Cox, deputy headteacher said: “I am so proud of the staff and pupils at Lutley Primary School as all their hard work in developing an international community within school has been recognised nationally.

“Children throughout the school enjoy communicating with pupils from a wide variety of countries through letters, e-mails and online notes in order to give them a better understanding of what other children experience in their global community.”

The Department for Children, Schools and Families International School Award seeks to celebrate, develop, recognise and accredit outstanding practice in the international dimensions of teaching and learning. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens.

John Rolfe, Manager, DCSF International School Award at the British Council said: “Many congratulations on Lutley Primary School’s well-deserved success in being accredited with the Award.

“The rich range of work in the school and across your larger community to support and encourage global citizens with a greater understanding of the world around them is truly fantastic.”

He added: “The international dimensions of teaching and learning have been at the heart of the work of the British Council for 75 years and to receive the Award in its 10th anniversary year is a special cause for celebration.”
