Old Hill climbed to the top of Birmingham League Division One after a winning draw with West Bromwich Dartmouth.

The result saw the Haden Hill side leapfrog their opponents, the long-term division leaders.

But there is no chance to relax as with just six games remaining only 15 points separate the top five in the division, with only two promotion places up for grabs.

In a rain affected match, reduced to 49 overs each, Dartmouth won the toss and elected to field.

Openers Mike Hingley and Mark Fisher got off to a steady start and put on 46 before being parted.

Round then joined Fisher and together they put on a wonderful stand of 153 in spite of a further disruptive downpour.

Fisher (65) was stumped with the score at 199, while Round went on to complete his second century of the season before being dismissed for 108.

Old Hill eventually finished on 269-9 from their allotted overs.

Dartmouth were set a reduced to target of 204 from 37 overs but Zafran Ali struck early and the hosts took regular wickets as the visitors could only reach 160.

The seconds also managed a creditable winning draw against table toppers West Bromwich Dartmouth at Dartmouth Park.

Batting first, Dartmouth scored 212-8 with Jared Daniels (3-75), Sam Perruzza (2-26) and Mitch Jeffery (2-47) the pick of the bowlers.

Due to two short rain breaks the visitors’ target was recalculated and they were set a score of 196 off 46 overs in which to obtain a winning draw.

This was achieved with some comfort thanks to Mo Shoaib (61) and young Joe Thorne (52 not out) batting very well as Old Hill reached 198-6 from their allotted 46 overs.

The third XI lost their game away at Hallow by just 17 runs in a below par performance.

Captain Maurice Whyte won the toss and chose to field with the home side scoring 200-7 off their 45 overs with Jon Baig being Old Hill’s best bowler with 3-40.

The visitors were then bowled out for 183 as Winston Lewis (82) and Jon Baig (40) were the only batsmen to get going.

The fourth XI’s home game was moved to Stone due to the unavailability of the Wassell Grove but the youngsters secured a very good victory by six wickets.

Batting first, Feckenham scored 103 in 30 overs with young Richard Lloyd taking 6-6, including a hat-trick in a magnificent spell of bowling.

In reply, Old Hill reached their target for the loss of only four wickets in 33 overs to win the game, with Jack Parkes (24), Nathan Davies (16) and Ryan Dimmock (28 not out) top scorers.
