PARENTS and carers of disabled children in Halesowen are being given a helping hand after the launch of an online chat service.

Newlife Foundation, the children’s disability charity, has launched the instant response Live Chat service which is manned by Newlife Nurses.

Similar to instant messanger services the Live Chat will be simple to use and has been set up in response to a 200 per cent increase in calls to Newlife Nurse Service Helpline in the last year.

The Live Chat service offers a quick, simple alternative to ringing a Newlife Nurse so questions can be asked and answered obtained at the touch of a button.

Newlife Foundation Nurse Service Manager Karen Dobson said: “The online chat service allows our families every opportunity to contact us, in ways most suitable for their lifestyle. Sometimes people don’t want to speak to us directly, and with people using the internet more, we now offer another means of gaining a personal service from nurse to individual. We offer an immediate reply to which we provide information tailored to a child and their family’s needs.”

A recent Newlife Foundation study discovered information for parents of disabled children was scarce, resulting in a lack of care.

The Live Nurse Chat provides simple, free access to qualified nurses, in a format similar to many popular Instant Messenger services, where questions are typed in and instant responses are given.

Newlife Nurses can explain conditions, medical terms, or break down the complex benefit systems with just a click of a button.
