Blackheath High Street was closed down today after a disabled shopper was ran over at the junction Powke Lane.
A disabled woman is believed to have been killed after a lorry drove into her as she walked across a pedestrian crossing.
The incident is believed to have happened at around 12.30pm High Street was closed afterwards.
The Midlands Air Ambulance landed at Britannia Park after being scrambled to attend the scene. Councillor Mary Docker said: "This is a great shame the lady in question was a well known figure around the town."
Two rapid response vehicles (one driven by an incident support officer), an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with its on-board doctor attended. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene. “The lorry driver was uninjured.”
