CONTROVERSIAL plans to cover scores of Halesowen roads in double yellow lines are to be revised following a storm of protest.

Traders and residents have until August 27 to submit comments to Dudley Council on a raft of draft orders for parking bans affecting 34 streets in the Shell Corner area of the town plus several proposals for making roads one-way.

Halesowen North councillor Karen Shakespeare said new proposals would be drawn up in the wake of the deluge of objections - including four petitions - already received.

“I anticipate quite a considerable number of changes to the original orders,” she said.

She and other ward councillors will meet with highways chiefs to thrash out new proposals after the end of the consultation period and Cllr Shakespeare said the revised plans would be put on public display at the Halesowen Area Committee meeting on November 10 at Earls High School.

Petition organisers will be able to speak for three minutes at the meeting to either outline their objections or confirm they are happy with the revisions.

Cllr Shakespeare said it was hoped the public would be able to view the updated proposals before the meeting starts at 6.30pm.

She added that there could be good news for rail commuters using Rowley Regis Train Station with the possibility of a car park extension to save them parking in nearby residential streets.

“We have been pushing for an extension for about four years and Centro is going to give consideration to using scrubland at the end of the existing car parking at its September meeting.

“Centro has to prioritise schemes. We are just hoping that by pushing we will get our scheme to the top of the pile,” said Cllr Shakespeare.
