THE future of Halesowen Library is at the top of the agenda of meeting next weekend.

The Halesowen Library Forum is meeting on Saturday, September 4 to discuss better lines of communication between management and users.

Chaz Stoll, from the forum, said: “We like libraries and have never been happy with losing two floors of Halesowen Library to another Council Service, nor with the lack of consultation by senior managers.

“We have always had the view that these decisions were quite deplorable.”

However, despite the decimation of the resources at the library the forum are still hoping to have a positive input into decision making at the community facility at the Cornbow Centre.

He said: “We aim to be positive and keep our library vibrant, a real hub in the community and our input as helpful as can be.

“We welcome everyone and hope that you can come along.”

He added: “There is a proposal from the library service managers for users and councillors to meet on a fairly regular basis to discuss the library - concerns and positives - and thus feed back to the council.”

“Thus opening a line of communication that was absent in the past.”

There was consternation earlier this year when it emerged that a plan to scale back the library’s services and floor space was pushed through Dudley Council without proper consultation.

In other developments at the library an interview room has been installed at the side of the teenage section.

The forum meeting is being held at 10.30am on Saturday September 4 at The Shenstone Theatre.
