POLICE in Halesowen have secured a dispersal order to stop gangs of foul-mouthed youths high on drugs causing trouble.

An anti-social behaviour dispersal order is now in force in Howley Grange including crime hotspots in Shenstone Avenue and Manor Lane.

Sergeant Wendy Tyler from the Halesowen South Neighbourhood Policing Team explained why the dispersal order was needed.

She said: “After speaking with residents from Shenstone Avenue and shop keepers along Manor Lane it is clear that they have been experiencing problems with young people acting in an anti social manner.

“The main offences are using abusive language, littering, underage drinking, and drug usage and kicking footballs against shop windows.”

And Sgt Tyler believes the dispersal order will help police officers keep crime down.

“The dispersal order allows officers to have more powers in relation to moving people in large groups out of the area.

“A number of young people have already been encountered and alcohol has been seized and one individual has been arrested for the possession of cannabis.”

And Sgt Tyler believes the clampdown is already providing results.

She said: “The team have received thanks from residents who have noticed a positive improvement in the area.

“My team will continue to proactively patrol the area with a view to improving the quality of life for both residents and shop keepers in Manor Lane.”

The next Police and Communities Together meeting is being held on 7pm on Thursday, December 30 at Manor Way School, Brier Mill Road, at 7pm.
