Dudley Council is to probe the case of Hayley Green and Cradley South Councillor Ken Turner after he used the authority’s computer system to distribute a joke about immigrants which was slammed by fellow councillors as “appalling.”

Dudley Council monitoring officer, Philip Tart, will now prepare a report on the affair before a meeting to rule on the outspoken councillor’s future.

A spokesman for Dudley Council said: "The referrals sub-committee referred the matter for an investigation.

"The monitoring officer's investigations will be conducted shortly and a date for the hearing sub-committee will then be set."

Cllr Turner suspended his membership from the Conservative Party and issued an apology for sending the joke which was emailed to every member of Dudley Council.

He also reported himself to Dudley Council’s Standards Committee, the matter was brought to the attention of authority’s watchdog group which has the power to sack councillors.
