THE father of a Romsley boy who broke his leg in two places in an accident on a skateboard ramp which was condemned as “high risk” by accident experts is considering suing the parish council responsible for its upkeep.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents branded the ramp at the St Kenelm’s playingfields as dangerous last September, but it was not finally removed until last week.

Thirteen-year-old triplet Charlie Bagley broke his fibula and tibia and dislocated his ankle while riding his scooter skateboard over the ramp last month.

The Halas Hawk goalkeeper, of Bromsgrove Road, underwent surgery on his leg and has had screws and plates fitted to help the bones heal.

“At the moment I’m gathering information to explore the possibilities of whether to make a claim,” said his father Darren Bagley.

The three-section skateboard ramp was the responsibility of Romsley Parish Council which has been criticised by former councillor Stan Francis over alleged delays in removing the facility.

Although on the council’s website it is described as being “regularly inspected and maintained” Mr Francis said six-inch nails were sticking through the concrete and a stell plate was loose.

Council chairman Councillor Ivan Hodgetts was not available for comment.
