"A rise in average capped scores per student from 326 points in 2010 to 331 points this year ( a score based on a students best 8 results across all subjects including English and Mathematics) is evidence of the consistently high standards of teaching and learning which takes place in classrooms at Heathfield on a daily basis."

The spokesman added: "It is also worth noting that the results achieved and reported here do not include any GCSE results which will be double checked with examination boards where students are only one or two marks away from a higher grade. "Almost 50 further students fell into this category to possibly gain a grade ā€˜Cā€™ in either English Language or Maths and their examination papers are being checked by the examination board as we go to press.

"As a result, we are confident that our GCSE results will increase even more in the next couple of weeks."

Acting principal Phillip Weale said: "The pleasing GCSE and BTEC results this year are our best ever and we continue to work to achieve even more in the future. "Everyone, involved, students, parents/carers and teachers have worked so hard. "Well done to all! We expect over 175 of our Year 11 students to continue onto A level and BTEC studies in our excellent Sixth Form in September."
