PERRYFIELDS High School has announced it is building a brand new 28 classroom teaching block which should be ready in September.

The new timber style building and improved facilities will help Oldbury school and sixth form college provide top class education for its pupils.

The Oldacre Road school’s intake of pupils increases year on year and the new teaching block will be a state-of-art facility which will help the school cope with the extra pupils.

Headteacher Dai Meredith said: “We will be having a brand new 28 classroom teaching block which will be opened as early as September 2012.

“This teaching block is the result of ongoing negotiations with the local council and using an innovative new scheme whereby the school makes a contribution to the cost of the new build.

He added: “Included in our new build will be the 28 classroom block, plus a multi-use games area and refurbishment of the playground where our present mobiles are situated.”

The school also has been told by Ofsted that due to its record of improvement there will not be an inspection this year.

Mr Meredith said: “Ofsted told us that due to a strong improvement in all key areas since 2009, they have deferred the need for inspection until at least Summer 2013.

“This is clearly a compliment from Ofsted in recognition of the excellent work being done at Perryfields.

“I would like to reassure all parents that we will not become complacent following this information and will continue to strive to make continued progress and improvement.”
