RED rose buttonholes are been sold from Saturday to mark St George’s Day and raise funds for Blackheath’s next Poppy Day parade.
Volunteers will be out in force selling the buttonholes, which come in two sizes, at the town’s Sainsbury’s store until the saint's day on Wednesday.
Legion branch secretary Mark Spilsbury said the Blackheath Remembrance Day Parade in November had grown considerably in recent years and is now the biggest in Sandwell.
He said the parade costs, including a piper, a buffet and ceremonial expenses, amounted to between £800 and £1,000.
