A CARD designed by a creative Wordsley schoolgirl will be sent to the Prime Minister this Christmas.

Millie Cole, a pupil at Ashwood Park Primary School, has been announced as the winner of Dudley South MP Mike Wood's Christmas competition.

The Conservative MP received 635 entries from primary and special school students across his constituency but decided that 10-year-old Millie's was the best of the bunch.

Her festive Christmas tree design has been made into cards which will be sent out to schools, community organisations, businesses, councillors and Mr Wood's colleagues in Westminster, including Prime Minister Theresa May and other cabinet members.

The six shortlisted entries also feature as thumbnail images on the back of the cards.

To mark their success, Millie and the six runners-up have scooped prizes donated by intu Merry Hill, Dudley Zoo, Cadbury World and the Black Country Living Museum.

Mr Wood said: “I was overwhelmed to receive so many excellent entries, any one of which would have made a fantastic winner, and am really grateful to all eight schools who encouraged their pupils to take part.”

He added: "It’s been lovely to visit each of the schools to give prizes to the winners and certificates to all of the children who entered, and see their preparations for Christmas and the children’s excitement.

"I look forward to receiving even more amazing entries next year from our very talented local young artists.”
