Teachers and pupils from The Wordsley School welcomed a visit from The Mayor of Dudley.

The Dudley Council led school invited the Mayor to take a look around the school’s construction site, where a brand new teaching block is being developed by contractors AM Griffiths and Son Ltd.

The Wolverhampton based business, which has recently joined the Mayoral Business Club, is working to Dudley Council’s designs to build 10 new classrooms with a number of new facilities for pupils and staff including a sports hall.

Existing classrooms are also being altered and upgraded to provide new science classes with laboratory facilities included.

The business club is open to all local businesses, and offers them access to a series of exclusive networking events, VIP experiences and high profile sponsorship opportunities.

Members make an annual contribution, which goes towards funding community events like Armed Forces Day and the Himley Bonfire, helping to make the borough an attractive place to work, live and visit.

Each year a prize draw is held, with some of the lucky businesses winning the rights to become principal sponsors of events, with sponsorship packages worth in excess of £8,000.

Councillor David Stanley, The Mayor of Dudley, said: "It was wonderful to see the work that’s going on at Wordsley School, it’s going to be an impressive addition and something that will boost the sorts of activities and lessons they can offer there.

"I was delighted to meet with AMG who are undertaking the work for the school and as they have recently joined the Mayoral Business Club. It was interesting to learn more about the construction work they undertake for the authority, particularly in a live school environment such as this one."

Richard Green, Managing Director at AM Griffiths and Son Ltd, said: "It was a pleasure to meet the Mayor of Dudley today and to show him one of the big construction projects that we are proud to be involved with at the moment with Dudley Corporate Landlord Services.

"As a Black Country run business, we are always looking at ways of giving something back to the communities that we have grown around and being part of the Mayoral Business Club is one of the ways we are doing our bit for Dudley borough."
