Stourbridge Got 2 Sing Choir members are sprinkling the final bits of icing sugar on their cakes and drying off their mugs for Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa this week.

The event brings people together over a cuppa and some cake – while raising money for more dementia specialist Admiral Nurses, who give life-changing support to families facing dementia.

Fundraisers are looking to make this the biggest Dementia UK tea party yet and over 1,000 Got 2 Sing choir members in total across the Midlands are proud to be part of it!

Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, they work alongside families affected by dementia, giving them the compassionate one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions which help families face dementia with more confidence and less fear.

Choir members are baking, bringing and buying cakes at their weekly rehearsal at Gigmill Primary School this Thursday (5th March).

Choir Leader Beth Dunn said: "We are all really excited to make Time for a Cuppa for Dementia UK at our rehearsal this week. Not only will we have fun but we will also raising funds and awareness of the incredible work which Admiral Nurses do.”

Dr Hilda Hayo, Chief Admiral Nurse and CEO at Dementia UK, said: “Dementia can leave many families isolated and without the support they need. This is why it’s so important for people to come together, to talk to people with the condition and to reminisce about the lives of people who have been lost to it.

“Since Time for a Cuppa began, it has raised over £850,000 to provide more dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. We are so grateful to everyone who has taken part over the years. This year, we’re looking forward to welcoming more seasoned and aspiring bakers and tea brewers like Got 2 Sing Choir."

Dementia UK currently has 279 Admiral Nurses working across various care settings, including out in the community, care homes, hospitals and hospices.

The charity also has its Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline which is available to anyone with any questions around dementia via phone or email. There are currently not enough Admiral Nurses for the growing number of people with dementia.
