A pensioner has been injured during a hit-and-run involving a lorry while he was out walking his two dogs in North Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to Netherton Street, near to Netherton Road in Wishaw at around 8.15am on Wednesday.

The 66-year-old had been struck by a white HGV, which failed to stop.

Members of the public stopped to help him and he was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by ambulance.

He suffered head and shoulder injuries, but was later released.

Constable Simon Reilly from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell said: “Officers are currently examining CCTV and making inquiries locally in order to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.

“It is very possible that the driver of the HGV has not realised that he struck the man and I would appeal to them to come forward.

“I would also ask anyone who was in the area yesterday morning and may have witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

“I would particularly appeal to any motorists who were in the vicinity to check their dash-cams in case they have captured any footage which could be of significance to the investigation.”
