PEOPLE throughout Dudley Borough are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote in the upcoming elections.

The delivery of thousands of poll cards signals the countdown to both the local and general elections which take place in six weeks time on May 7.

Cards are currently landing on door mats across the borough for people who have already registered, however Dudley Council are reminding residents to make sure they are registered to vote.

Those who are registered should receive their cards by March 31, but if people are not registered to vote by April 20 they cannot have their say.

Sarah Norman, chief executive and returning officer at Dudley Council, said: “It’s so quick and easy to register to vote, there is no excuse not to.

“Local and national Government affects so much of people’s lives but if people are not registered to vote, they have no say in the democratic process.

“I urge people to take the time to register as soon as they can.”

Registration can be carried out online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and residents will need to have their national insurance number to hand.
