FANTASTIC fireworks and a roaring bonfire in Barnt Green will help raise money for good causes once again this year.

The Barnt Green Bonfire and Fireworks night has been running in the village for 12 years, helping to raise thousands of pounds for charities.

Plans have now been announced for this year's event, which takes place opposite the Barnt Green Inn on November 3 from 5.30pm.

A children's display will begin at 6.30pm, followed by a bonfire at 7pm and a main display at 7.45pm.

Bonfire committee member Sue Diprose said: "We are really proud that the money local people help raise helps such a diverse range of charities.

"Many people have been supported through difficult times by each of the nominated charities, and we are looking forward to raising many more thousands of pounds over the coming years."

The fundraising committee have already been distributing previous money raised over the past few months.

Charities benefitting include Cancer Research and Fisher House at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Primrose Hospice in Bromsgrove, Redditch Night Stop and Citizen Advocacy South Birmingham Area (CASBA).

James Crockford, another member of the fundraising committee, said: "Primrose Hospice is close to all of our hearts.

"They gave wonderful support to a long-time friend of the Bonfire night, and both Redditch Night Stop and CASBA work tirelessly to help some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”

The money donated to Redditch Night Stop is helping young people at risk of homelessness, particularly to help them get ID, without which they struggle to access support services.

CASBA used their donation to host a very successful event celebrating 30 years of supporting and advocating for people with learning disabilities.

Fisher House offers a home away from home for military patients and families.
