TWO councillors are calling on Bromsgrove council to help reduce air pollution by introducing electric cars.
Councillors Peter McDonald and Sean Shannon believe the council should purchase and lease electric vehicles to tackle the issue.
The duo are also calling for the council to install electric chargers and solar panels on its properties.
Labour councillors have been monitoring air pollution alongside The Friends of The Earth, with cllr McDonald calling their findings 'concerning'.
Cllr McDonald said: "The council needs to take action to try and reduce the levels of pollution throughout the district and show a lead.
"One of the main concerns that local residents have is regarding air pollution.
"Therefore, there is a duty on this council to take the appropriate steps to reduce air pollution and protect the health of those it represents.”
Councils in Dudley, Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Walsall are among those locally to have looked at the issue in recent times, having launched a consultation on electric cars this summer.
The motion will be discussed by councillors in Bromsgrove at a full council meeting on Thursday, September 19.
