A MUSIC event honouring the life of Redditch’s most famous son, rock legend John Bonham, takes place this weekend.

The festival, a full day of live music, comes after the unveiling of a permanent bronze memorial statue of the Led Zeppelin drummer in the town centre earlier this year.

On the day the day the statue will be handed over to Redditch Borough Council.

Organised by The John Bonham Memorial Friends in partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College, the festival features a stellar line-up of rock/blues artists and special guests, all with a connection to John and the Bonham family.

Bands include tribute act Letz Zep, Deborah Bonham and her band, Birmingham-based Rebecca Downs, rock blues powerhouse Big Wolf, and local bands Arcadia Roots and You Dirty Blue.

Redditch Advertiser:

A spokesman said that some acts will be revealed on the day via @JBonhamMF and John Bonham Memorial Redditch on Facebook.

They added: "This memorable event will host a mix of well-known stars and upcoming musicians, all donating their time to remember John Bonham and to raise vital funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and their outreach nurse programme across the West Midlands."

The event is on this Saturday, September 22 from 1pm until 11pm at a marquee located on Peakman Street.

Tickets for the event cost £25 (plus £1.50 booking fee) via johnbonhammemorial.com.

Ticket numbers are strictly limited to 1,000 on a first come first served basis. Over 18s only.
