A ‘CAFÉ’ that aims to serve up working electrical and other goods celebrates one year in Ludlow on Saturday.
The Repair Cafe encourages people in south Shropshire to take in broken items or ones which are not working properly and get them fixed, to avoid sending them to landfill. It is supported by local Social Enterprise, The Furniture Scheme, and organiser Di Lyle said the two groups share the same ethos.
“The Furniture Scheme is all about improving existing items for re-use, so it minimises waste while helping those in society to make the best of skills they have or learn new ones too - and that’s exactly what the Repair Cafe is all about as well,” she said.
“As such, The Furniture Scheme provide occasional free room hire and use of electrical PAT testing equipment.
“It’s a feel-good initiative, people bring items which are no longer working, which don’t work quite like they used to, and a team of volunteers do their best to fix them and send them home again with an extended life, thereby avoiding adding to landfill.
“The volunteers bring a range of skills, experiences and enthusiasm.
“They embrace the challenges which come through the door.”
