A CONGREGATION was celebrating as a reverend who has been supporting a them for many years was formally inducted as a minister.

Rev Marion Hartwell, who has been supporting the work of the Long Compton Ebenezer Chapel for many years was formally inducted as Minister on November 3, albeit on a part time basis due to her existing ministry at Long Itchington.

A large congregation was present to witness the occasion and the Hand of Fellowship was extended to her by members of the congregation and also representatives from many village community organisations.

The welcome was given by Elizabeth Gilkes, chair, and Sally Franklin, secretary/treasurer, read a statement on behalf of the congregational membership. Michael Rolton, minister of Moreton in Marsh Congregational Church led the service whilst Janet Wootton, president elect of the Congregational Federation reminisced about her time visiting Long Compton as a trainee and the warm welcome she had received. She was impressed at the regeneration of the chapel and future plans and felt would be used by the Federation as an example to other chapels with declining memberships.

All present were invited to attend the Bi-Centenary of the Chapel in 2020. The first service that Marion will formally officiate at as minister is on December 2.
