A DRUNK man stole items from vehicles in a Ross-on-Wye street.

Nathan Beard, 28, of Weston-under-Penyard pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from a motor vehicle at Hereford Magistrates Court.

From two vehicles he stole a wallet, an auxiliary cable, a Sat Nav, USB charger, trolley tokens, foreign coins and a bluetooth receiver.

Kerry Lovegrove said on November 16 a resident heard Beard trying to open car doors and called the police. When officers arrived they searched Beard and found the stolen items.

During his police interview he said he had been out with friends and was heavily intoxicated.

Emily Gourley, mitigating, said Beard offended regularly in 2014 and his last conviction was in 2015. She said he had drink issues but then managed to secure stable accommodation and work as a landscape gardener.

But she said last month he found himself homeless and had been staying with friends, which has led to him drinking to excess. She said he had nowhere to stay on the 16th.

She added: "He opened two car doors and went back to his old ways, if you can put it that way."

She said he has now been offered accommodation from his employer.

Magistrates fined Beard £130 for each offence, ordered him to pay £109 compensation for the bluetooth receiver which was not recovered, £135 court courts and a victim surcharge of £30.
