FATHER Christmas has proved particularly popular at his Base Station in Crowngate this December – and there's a new Santa in the city.

After Father Christmas’ arrival in Worcester, which saw the city’s High Street packed with crowds who greeted him and his elves, old St Nick has been a big draw with families in the city.

Many children and their families have been enjoying an array of activities at Santa’s headquarters.

Visitors have been gathering to meet Father Christmas at Santa’s Base Station, located in the Crowngate Shopping Centre.

However, this year there is a new Santa Claus on the block who will be meeting the good boys and girls.

The city’s previous Santa has hung up his sack and retired after 10 years of visiting Crowngate’s grotto.

Worcester News has reported the previous Santa, who had made a name for himself by proving so popular with children and parents.

He was one of the city’s most beloved figures.

Children now have the opportunity to meet the new Santa, free of charge, between 11am and 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until December 23 at his Base Station.

Saturdays at the Base Station also include additional themed activities, which kicked off over the weekend with event-goers having a boogie with Santa and his elves at a silent disco.

On December 15, guests can make penguin baubles and youngsters will be able to create North Pole masks.

A final craft workshop wraps up on December 22 with polar bear puppets.

Mike Lloyd, from Crowngate Shopping Centre, said: “Santa received a rapturous welcome from Worcester during his parade through the city and we’re equally as pleased that Santa’s Base Station is also being well received. Santa’s Base Station is a big hit, with many children and their families taking part in the fun, crafting and games.”
